According to Thailand Automotive Institute (TAI) reports on Thailand's automotive industry totals for 2020, a total production number of motor vehicles was 1.427 million units, a total number of domestic sales amounted to 792,146 units and a total export amounted to 735,842 units. These numbers were decreased from previous year in the same period; 29%, 21% and 30%, respectively as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic that had caused the economic slowdown.

In 2021, TAI estimates that a total number of motor vehicles produced will be 1.5 million units (a 6% increase compared to 2020) and a total number for export will be 0.75 million units (a 2% increase compared to 2020) due to the economic recovery of trade partner countries. On the other hand, TAI forecasts a total domestic sale to be 0.75 million units (a 3% decrease compared to 2020) due to the new attack from COVID-19 pandemic in the country, which will soar household debt.
